“GOOD GUYS LIST”™, for all 1998 Primary Elections.

UPDATE!

Information on the Revision to the Candidate Questionnaire.

Editors Note: Citizens For A Better America TM made a major revision to its Candidate Questionnaire on April 3, 1998. All candidates endorsed for primaries that were after the Ohio election, with one exception, were endorsed using the new Candidate Questionnaire. That exception was in the California primary where one of the candidates, Richard Mountjoy, was endorsed under the previous Candidate Questionnaire because he was endorsed on Feb. 14, 1997.

Both questions 18 and 19 were revised and a requirement of signing under penalty of perjury was added. This was done to further strengthen the confidence we have in our endorsed candidates. As Robert Colaco our National Chairman recently wrote in "The Good News Report"™, for May 1998,

"You might be asking why take such a hard stand? As I talk to potential members almost all tell me something like this: “'We work so hard to get these candidates into office and then they turn on us. They get in there and they start to flake out on us'”. I reassure them that this is why we are so picky about who makes our “Good Guys List”™. Now that we have added questions 18 and 19 we are even more picky about who makes our “Good Guys List”™."

I think these new changes within the candidate questionnaire have accomplished the goal of flushing out whether we can truly count on our endorsed candidates.

Below is an excerpt from e-mail version of the revised Candidate Questionnaire There is no difference between the fax version and the e-mail version in the question section only the instruction and formation differ for obvious reasons.

18. You may be required to make political appointments, you may
endorse other candidates. Candidates accept endorsements and
endorse others to further their political goals. If someone
answered or had positions differently than you did, which of
the above questions in this questionnaire if any, would you
be willing to "agree to disagree" with them on so that you
could appoint them or endorse them? Please list the
         number(s) of the question(s).

[ ] The number(s) of the question(s) I could "agree to disagree" on are: _______________________________________.

[ ] Except for Question #01, I could not "agree to disagree" with anyone regarding any of the answers to the above questions for the purpose of endorsing them or appointing them.

19. Which one of the following most correctly describes your philosophy?:

[ ] I will hold to the answers I have given in this Candidate Questionnaire even if they are completely contrary to my political party's leadership, even if the U.S. President of my party is asserting that position.

[ ] I understand in order to accomplish my political goals, I may need to adjust my positions.

This ends our series of questions. Citizens For A Better America (TM) will not endorse any candidate that does not completely fill out and return this Candidate Questionnaire, any additional supplemental questions we might fax or e-mail to you and have a phone interview with Robert Colaco, the National Chairman. We require candidates to complete a questionnaire each election, this questionnaire is for the next closest primary or general election only.
